Husqvarna has unveiled the AI Vision system for robotic lawn mowers. Instead of preset routes and wires, it uses cameras and computer vision to analyse the surroundings in real time.

The mower understands where obstacles, animals and garden furniture are — a simplified version of self-driving car technology. Autonomy grows while dependence on initial setup declines.

Computer vision technology is getting cheaper fast and spreading into mass-market home appliances — something that until recently required powerful self-driving systems.
